Our client, a fast-growing consumer products company, is seeking its first-ever General Counsel who will primarily be responsible for taking the lead on all agreements/contracts and compliance matters, including developing, implementing, and managing all compliance programs across the company. What You’ll Do
- Develop compliance requirements for all departments
- Oversee and monitor the implementation of all compliance plans
- Review and revise all major agreements/contracts
- Coordinate IP/Patent materials with outside counsel
- Create and execute on annual communication, training, monitoring, and auditing plans
- Report regularly to leadership, COO and CEO on the progress of implementation, and assist all departments in establishing methods to improve efficiency and eliminate the vulnerability to oversight and violations
- Stay current with relevant regulations to ensure all departments are equipped to remain compliant
- Ensure all independent contractors and outside agencies are aware of the requirements of the compliance program and all regulatory standards
- Coordinate periodic reviews of all Marketing materials, Sales Programs, Product/Package Development, Employment Matters, and more
- Respond to audits, investigations, and queries as the principal point of contact
- Manage the department budget and coordinate with vendors, third parties, and others to develop and maintain the compliance program
- Perform periodic risk assessments and response plans
Your Qualifications
- Law degree (from an accredited school) and be in good standing with your State Bar Association
- 5 +/- years of compliance experience, preferably in the medical device, ingestible, and/or cosmetics verticals
- Experience in leading compliance functions for fast-growing organizations
- In-depth knowledge of commercial, compliance and regulatory matters (FDA and others) related to the commercialization of consumer products in the health and wellness market – international experience is a plus.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfort in managing responsibility within a remote workforce
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to convey complex situations and regulations to a diverse set of stakeholders while maintaining influence on the compliance issues
- Unparalleled problem solving and decision-making skills, matched with an ability to think creatively and devise solutions to challenging problems
- Independent and analytically driven, you see problems before they happen and pro-actively provide immediate solutions
- Strong sense of accountability combined with a team-first approach
- Ability to work within a fast-paced dynamic work environment while thinking critically to help the company achieve its goals while maintaining compliance
